We Must Be Squirrel Magnets ...
April 10, 2006
Not wanting to be left out, Blackie, our resident black squirrel, also stopped by the feeders just now...
We refilled all the feeding areas on Saturday (suet, seed blocks, trays, tubes etc.) so the word must have gotten out!
Blackie is the only black squirrel we've seen, and he seems a bit shyer than the grays. From what I understand, black squirrels are not a different species, but in fact, a variety of the Eastern gray squirrel. And interestingly, black squirrels appear more frequently the farther north you go ... I wonder why that is?
It seems all that's left now is for us to spot a white (or albino) squirrel! Has anyone seen one of those?
