The Feast of the Triumph of the Holy Cross

Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim; till all the world adore his sacred Name ...

In honor of today's feast, we all worked together on a handprint cross. This was another adapted idea from The Big Book of Catholic Customs and Traditions for Children's Faith Formation.

We began with a plain posterboard cross base:

Then we traced each family member's hands in favorite colors of construction paper. I cut them all out and we applied the paper hands to our cross:

I had planned to make a cross-shaped cake for the boys' tea, before I left for the hospital to visit my dad. I didn't have time to do it, but dear husband (and he really is a dear) took up the challenge and baked the cake himself with the boys!

When I came home on this dark, rainy night, it was to a house full of little boys who missed me and a freshly baked cake for our feast!

As you can see, they found it hard to wait - note the little finger marks there. :)  But the cake was a delicious and pleasant way to wind down the evening.

The Feast of the Triumph of the Holy Cross is another wonderful opportunity to talk about and celebrate our faith. Please stop by my friend Jenn's blog for more information on, and inspiration for, this beautiful feast.

Today it might not have been tea - but milk and dessert made it lovely just the same. Thank you to all my boys for helping to make this day so special. :)
